Fluminense secures a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup final with a 2-0 victory over Al Ahly, thanks to goals from Jhon Arias and John Kennedy.

Jhon Arias from Fluminense emerged as the star of the evening, delighting in the company of his teammates as they celebrated his successful penalty kick, which marked their team’s first goal in the FIFA Club World Cup Semi-Final clash against Al Ahly FC. This thrilling match unfolded on December 18, 2023, at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.

Fluminense’s path to the Club World Cup final was secured through Arias’ penalty and a last-minute goal by John Kennedy. The victory was hard-earned for the champions of Copa Libertadores, as they had to overcome a formidable challenge posed by Al Ahly. Marcelo showcased his mastery when he expertly maneuvered a diagonal pass, skillfully dribbled past Percy Tau, and was fouled inside the penalty area by the opposing forward. Arias maintained composure and successfully converted the penalty kick, placing the ball into the inner side of the net, granting Fluminense the advantage with only 19 minutes remaining until the end of the game.

Despite the game being fairly balanced, Fluminense came close to seizing the lead on two occasions during the first half, as Arias struck the goalpost on both instances. Al Ahly also had their opportunities throughout the match, yet they failed to find the back of the net. During the final moments, Al Ahly made an aggressive push to find a goal that would level the score. Nevertheless, it was Fluminense’s substitute, John Kennedy, who once again demonstrated his ability to make a significant impact. Just like he did in the Copa Libertadores Final, Kennedy found the back of the net after being brought on as a substitute.

Matheus Martinelli played a crucial role by providing the pass that set up Kennedy at the edge of the penalty area. The striker swiftly turned and executed a precise finish, leaving goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy with no chance to make a save.

Fluminense fully deserved their victory, as they displayed remarkable determination and skill throughout the entire match.
