Unai Emery extends his contract as head coach of Aston Villa until 2027 just before the upcoming match against Chelsea in the Premier League.

Unai Emery, the former Arsenal boss, has pledged his future to Aston Villa by signing a contract extension that will keep him as head coach until 2027. Since joining Villa from Villarreal in October 2022, Emery has made a significant impact on the team.

Under Emery’s guidance, Villa is on track to qualify for the UEFA Champions League and has reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League. Emery expressed his satisfaction with the club, stating, “We are enjoying our way together with Villa fans, the club owners, management, and this great group of players that we are proud of.”

Emery also praised the club’s owners, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, for their support and respect. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the hard-working spirit, making clever decisions, and coordinating with the ownership to continue developing the football club. Emery’s ambition for the project is clear, stating, “We will work to get better and better. And we will demand from each other. Ambition already is, and must always be, the motto of this project.”

When Emery took over from Steven Gerrard, Villa was languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table. However, he quickly turned things around, winning his first game in charge against Manchester United and securing a seventh-place finish in his debut season.

Chairman Sawiris expressed his excitement about the contract extension, stating, “We are thrilled and are building a sporting operation around Unai to support him with a view of returning Aston Villa to its historic levels of greatness.” As the club prepares to celebrate its 150th anniversary, Sawiris aims to restore Villa to its former glory.

Currently sitting in fourth place in the Premier League table, Villa is six points ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham, who have two games in hand. In their quest for success, Villa will face Olympiacos in the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League. Both legs of the semi-final will be broadcast live on TNT Sports and discovery+.

Villa’s next challenge comes in the form of a Premier League clash against Chelsea on Saturday evening, which will also be shown live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
