Mbappe’s Hat-Trick Sends PSG to Top of Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain emerged victorious with a resounding 3-0 win over Reims in Ligue 1 on Saturday afternoon, propelling them to the top of the table. The star of the show was none other than Kylian Mbappe, who netted a sensational hat-trick to secure the triumph for his side.

Mbappe wasted no time in making his mark on the game, finding the back of the net just three minutes into the match. With a sublime volley into the bottom corner, he capitalized on the excellent build-up play from winger Ousmane Dembele. However, Reims quickly retaliated and thought they had equalized through Junya, only for the goal to be disallowed due to an earlier offside.

Despite Reims’ persistent pressure and control over the game, it was PSG’s goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma who proved to be a crucial figure in securing the victory. Just days after enduring taunts from AC Milan fans, the Italian shot-stopper made an impressive seven saves to deny Reims any chance of scoring.

The second half saw Spanish midfielder Carlos Soler play a pivotal role in PSG’s success. Advancing down the left wing, Soler set up Mbappe with a golden opportunity inside the six-yard box, which the French forward duly converted. Although Mbappe was denied his hat-trick earlier by Yehvann Diouf, he eventually completed the feat with a magnificent curling shot from inside the area, finding the far corner of the net.

With this win, PSG now sit at the top of the Ligue 1 table, edging ahead by a single point. Nice, their closest competitors, were held to a goalless draw at Montpellier on Friday evening. As for Reims, they currently occupy the fourth spot in the league standings, awaiting the outcome of the remaining weekend fixtures in France.
