Girona’s 4-2 victory over Barcelona resulted in Real Madrid being crowned La Liga champions, as Michel’s team staged a comeback to surprise the Catalan giants.
Players of Girona FC were seen celebrating their team’s second goal, scored by Cristian Portugues ‘Portu’, during the LaLiga EA Sports match against FC Barcelona. It was a remarkable second-half performance from Portu that led Girona to a stunning victory over Barcelona, ultimately confirming Real Madrid as La Liga champions for the 36th time.
Girona’s triumph also secured their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League and propelled them ahead of Barcelona into second place in the league standings.
The impact of substitute Portu cannot be understated, as he entered the game with his team trailing 2-1. Portu wasted no time in making his presence felt, scoring with his first touch after receiving an unselfish square pass from Artem Dovbyk, who had found the back of the net in the first half. Just two minutes later, Portu made another decisive contribution, running into the area and setting up Miguel Guiterrez, whose shot took a deflection and gave Girona the lead.
But Portu wasn’t done yet. He produced one of the goals of the season, unleashing an unstoppable volley from the edge of the area that flew past Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen. This goal showcased Portu’s exceptional skill and technique.
Before Portu’s heroics, it seemed that Barcelona would secure victory with goals from Andreas Christensen at the start of the first half and Robert Lewandowski’s penalty at the end. However, Girona’s spirited comeback dashed Barcelona’s hopes and kept the title race alive only in theory.
With this crucial win, Girona now sit one point ahead of Barcelona with four games remaining in the season. Meanwhile, Real Madrid comfortably hold a 13-point lead at the top of the table.
