Timo Werner’s loan deal from RB Leipzig has been extended by Tottenham, with the added possibility of purchasing the striker in the future.
Spurs have secured the services of Timo Werner for another season, as the German striker’s loan spell from RB Leipzig has been extended until the end of next year. The deal also includes an option for a permanent transfer, with a fee of around £8.5 million.
Werner initially joined Tottenham on loan in January to provide cover for manager Ange Postecoglou’s side, and he made an immediate impact, scoring two goals and providing three assists. His first goal came in a 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace, followed by another in a 4-0 win against Aston Villa.
However, a hamstring injury in late April forced Werner to miss the final five games of the Premier League season. Despite his absence, Spurs managed to secure a fifth-place finish, earning them a spot in the Europa League for the upcoming campaign.
In a video released by the club, Werner expressed his happiness at staying in north London, praising the club and the support he has received from the fans. He described Spurs as a “really, really good place to stay at.”
Werner’s return to the Premier League with Spurs came after a challenging two-year spell with Chelsea, where he struggled to replicate the form that earned him a big-money move to Stamford Bridge. During his time at Chelsea, he scored 23 goals in 89 appearances and won several major trophies, including the UEFA Champions League.
Before joining Spurs, Werner returned to RB Leipzig in 2022, where he scored 11 goals in 35 Bundesliga games. Despite his impressive club performances, he has not represented Germany since a friendly defeat to Belgium in March 2023. With 24 goals from 57 caps, Werner will be hoping to add to his international tally in the future.
Overall, the extension of Werner’s loan deal is seen as a positive move for Spurs, as they look to build on their fifth-place finish and compete in the Europa League next season. With Werner’s proven goal-scoring ability and experience at the highest level, he could be a valuable asset for Postecoglou’s side.
