Thomas Tuchel has included Ivan Toney in the England squad for the World Cup qualifier against Andorra and the friendly match against Senegal.

Thomas Tuchel has expressed optimism following England’s first two matches, stating there is “still room to improve” but also highlighting “a lot of positives” as he prepares for the upcoming internationals against Andorra and Senegal in June.

In a significant move, Tuchel has recalled Ivan Toney to the England squad. The striker has been in sensational form, netting 29 goals in 43 appearances since his transfer to Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli. Notably, Toney was part of the team that clinched the Asian Champions League title last month.

Before his move abroad, Toney was a standout performer for Brentford, scoring 72 goals in 141 appearances. His contributions were pivotal in helping The Bees secure promotion to the Premier League and establish themselves in the top tier of English football. Toney has earned six caps for England since making his debut in March 2023 and was also part of Gareth Southgate’s squad that reached the Euro 2024 final.

In addition to Toney, Trevoh Chalobah has been included in the squad after returning to Chelsea for the latter part of the season. Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford has also received a call-up.

However, there are notable absentees from the squad. Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, a key figure in England’s defence since last summer’s Euros, is sidelined due to an eye injury sustained during his side’s FA Cup victory. West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento are also missing from the selection.

England will embark on a six-day training camp, culminating in a World Cup qualifier against Andorra in Barcelona on June 7, followed by a friendly against Senegal at the City Ground on June 10.

Tuchel, who took over from Gareth Southgate in January with the goal of leading England to World Cup glory next year, has assembled a strong squad. This comes despite many players being expected to participate in FIFA’s expanded Club World Cup, which runs from June 15 to July 13 in the United States.

The tournament will feature top talents from clubs such as Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, starting just a week after the match against Senegal.
