Simone Inzaghi’s team clinched the Serie A title with a derby win against their city rivals.
In a thrilling and historic Derby della Madonnina, Marcus Thuram of FC Internazionale emerged as the hero, celebrating his team’s second goal in their 2-1 victory over rivals AC Milan at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. This victory not only secured Inter’s 20th Scudetto but also marked the first time in Serie A history that the title had been won in a derby match.
Francesco Acerbi opened the scoring for Inter after 18 minutes, capitalizing on being left unmarked at a corner. Inter came close to doubling their lead before halftime, with Lautaro Martinez missing from close range and Thuram’s effort skimming the post. The first half ended with Inter in the lead but still hungry for more.
Early in the second half, Thuram sealed the victory for Inter with a sensational goal. Gathering a long ball, he skillfully stepped inside from the left wing and unleashed a low shot into the bottom corner. This goal put Inter in a commanding position and left Milan coach Stefano Pioli under immense pressure, as his side had now gone winless in four games.
Despite Milan’s efforts to mount a comeback, their attacks were repeatedly let down by poor finishing. However, they managed to pull one back through Fikayo Tomori, who headed home a rebound after Yann Sommer palmed another effort off the post. This goal set up a nervy finish to the match, with both teams reduced to ten men after Denzel Dumfries and Theo Hernandez were sent off following an altercation. Davide Calabria also received a red card, adding to the drama of the final moments.
In the end, Inter held on to secure their victory and ignite scenes of jubilation in the Curva Nord. This win not only marked their first Scudetto in three years but also extended their winning streak in the Milan Derby to six consecutive victories. On the other hand, Milan now find themselves in a difficult position, winless in four games and with little left to play for this season.
