Ruben Amorim stated that Manchester United supporters are entitled to a trophy, emphasizing the team’s obligation to them as they prepare for the UEFA Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.
‘He wants my job!’ quips Amorim as Fernandes interrupts question on Man Utd manager future.
Ruben Amorim has stated that he “owes” Manchester United fans a trophy as his side prepares to face Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa League final on Wednesday.
The match, taking place in Bilbao and broadcast live on TNT Sports and discovery+, will see the winners not only claim the coveted trophy but also secure a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League, despite both teams experiencing domestic struggles this season.
Amorim expressed the importance of repaying the long-suffering Red Devils supporters for their unwavering support during what has been a challenging campaign. He told TNT Sports: “The feeling we take if we win this game is going to be so important for what we want to build in the club, and they (the fans) deserve it.”
He continued, “If there are some fans that deserve a title this season, it’s Manchester United fans. So, we’ll hope to win something for them.”
When asked if United owe their fans silverware, the manager responded: “I think so, that is a clear feeling. It’s not just me, it’s everybody, all the players, all the staff. We owe a lot of things this season to our fans.”
The Portuguese manager is acutely aware of how much a victory would mean to the supporters and spoke about the sense of responsibility felt by everyone at the club ahead of this season-defining match. “We can say that it is one more game, one more final, but when you are here, you feel what the fans have been saying during the week,” he added.
“When you get your coffee or you get your kids and the fans say, ‘Let’s go win the final’, it’s different, and it would mean the world for us.”
This will mark United’s second visit to San Mames, having previously dispatched Athletic Club with a 3-0 victory in the semi-final first leg. The presence of fellow Premier League opposition in the final adds an element of familiarity to the encounter.
“It’s the second time, so we know the stadium, but it’s a different feeling,” Amorim explained. “The environment is different, you feel the excitement. Everybody is here expecting a big game with two massive clubs struggling this season, so it’s going to be fun.”
