Rio Ferdinand believes that Kylian Mbappe’s moment has arrived after his impressive two-goal performance against Barcelona, feeling grateful for the opportunity to witness it.
Barcelona, Spain – April 16: Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain celebrated a remarkable victory in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg match against FC Barcelona at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on April 16, 2024 in Barcelona.
In a stunning display of skill and talent, Kylian Mbappe led Paris Saint-Germain to a resounding 4-1 win over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg. The French forward scored twice, leaving Rio Ferdinand in awe and proclaiming that Mbappe is “blessed from above.”
Barcelona took an early lead in the match when Raphinha found the back of the net, putting them 1-0 ahead on the night and 4-2 ahead on aggregate. However, Mbappe had other plans. With his brace and goals from Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha, Paris Saint-Germain secured a famous victory.
Ferdinand couldn’t help but praise Mbappe, saying, “I just think some people seem like they are blessed from above, that this is your time and it feels like that for Mbappe. For his second goal, that’s not falling to anyone else, but it falls to him because he is that guy. There is going to be a moment over the two legs [in the semi-final] where Mbappe has got to come to the fore.”
Looking ahead to PSG’s upcoming semi-final showdown with Borussia Dortmund, Glenn Hoddle expressed his confidence in the French champions. Dortmund secured their place in the last four with a dramatic 4-2 win, but Hoddle believes PSG will come out on top.
“Looking at what I’ve seen tonight, I can only see Paris winning this tie,” Hoddle said. “They were good tonight [Dortmund], but it was an open game and I don’t see Paris losing that tie. PSG are a better-balanced team in defence and attack. They’ve got the best player in the world playing for them.”
Hoddle also addressed the speculation surrounding Mbappe’s future, stating, “The question was ‘is this the last time we’ll see him playing in the Champions League with a Paris Saint-Germain shirt?’ Well, no, the good thing for football is that they’re still there and in the semi-final. But I think they’ll get to the final now.”
