Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has issued a warning to critics of striker Erling Haaland. The 23-year-old scored the solitary goal in City’s 1-0 victory against Brentford in the Premier League. Haaland had faced scrutiny after missing several chances in City’s draw with Chelsea last weekend, but he redeemed himself with a goal in the 71st minute at the Etihad on Tuesday.

This result propelled City above Arsenal to second place in the Premier League, with just one point separating them from league leaders Liverpool. The two teams are set to clash at Anfield on March 10.

Guardiola revealed in the post-match press conference that Haaland had a difficult week due to the passing of his grandmother, but he still managed to deliver on the pitch. Guardiola stated, “When I was young, I was told about top strikers, don’t criticise them because he will shut your mouth, that’s for sure. Sooner or later, they are always there.” He acknowledged Haaland’s recent injury and personal struggles, emphasizing his resilience in scoring despite not being in his best form.

The City manager also addressed the absence of midfielder Kevin De Bruyne from the match. Guardiola explained that De Bruyne had a niggle in his hamstring and the team did not want to take any risks with his fitness. After being out for five months, the doctor advised caution to prevent any further discomfort.
