Nottingham Forest has requested PGMOL to release the VAR audio recordings from their loss to Everton.
Referee Anthony Taylor found himself at the center of controversy during the Premier League clash between Everton and Nottingham Forest at Goodison Park. Forest players Chris Wood and Callum Hudson-Odoi confronted Taylor, claiming a handball against Everton’s Ashley Young.
In response to the perceived injustices, Nottingham Forest has submitted a formal request to the Professional Game Match Officials Ltd (PGMOL) to release the audio recordings between match officials for three incidents during their 2-0 defeat to Everton. All three potential penalties involved Ashley Young.
The first incident occurred in the 24th minute when Forest believed Young made contact with Giovanni Reyna’s foot in the box. The second incident took place 20 minutes later when a cross struck Young’s outstretched arm in the area. The third incident saw Young apply pressure on Callum Hudson-Odoi, who went down in the box.
Despite the claims from Forest, referee Anthony Taylor and VAR official Stuart Attwell did not award any penalties for these incidents. In response, Forest has reached out to the PGMOL, requesting the release of the audio recordings between officials for these key match incidents.
In a statement released on Monday, Forest expressed their desire for transparency and the upholding of the sport’s integrity. They stated, “We firmly advocate for the broader football community and supporters to have access to the audio and transcript for full transparency, ensuring the integrity of our sport is upheld.”
Immediately after their defeat to Everton, Forest released a statement criticizing the refereeing decisions, describing them as “extremely poor.” They also accused VAR official Stuart Attwell of being a Luton fan. Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo echoed the club’s sentiments, expressing his frustration with the decisions against his team.
Nottingham Forest currently sits just above the Premier League relegation zone in 17th place with 26 points. Everton, on the other hand, secured the victory and sits in 16th place with 30 points. Forest’s remaining fixtures this season include matches against Manchester City, Sheffield United, Chelsea, and Burnley.
The outcome of Nottingham Forest’s request to the PGMOL remains to be seen, but their actions highlight their determination to address what they perceive as poor refereeing decisions and ensure fairness in the game.
