Nikita Parris scores as Manchester United easily defeat Brighton and Hove Albion in the Women’s FA Cup, securing a spot in the semi-finals.
CRAWLEY, ENGLAND – Manchester United secured a comfortable 4-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion in the quarter-finals of the Women’s FA Cup. The win guarantees their place in the semi-finals of the competition.
Millie Turner opened the scoring for United after just eight minutes, heading in a delivery from Katie Zelem. Nine minutes later, Nikita Parris doubled their lead with a powerful strike past Brighton’s goalkeeper, Sophie Baggaley.
Lucia Garcia extended United’s advantage just before half-time, making it 3-0 in favor of the Red Devils. Lisa Naalsund completed the scoring in the 59th minute, ensuring Marc Skinner’s side progressed to the last four.
United had previously struggled in the Women’s Super League, going two games without a win. However, they returned to winning ways at Broadfield Stadium, dominating possession against Brighton. The two teams had previously drawn 2-2 in the league fixture back in November, but United emerged victorious with a 2-0 win in February.
Parris, who had scored a brace in the previous encounter, once again proved to be a key player for United. Her early goal set the tone for the match, and she continued to cause problems for Brighton throughout the game.
The victory was a significant achievement for Leicester City as well, as they reached the semi-finals for the first time in their history. Jutta Rantala was the hero for The Foxes, scoring both goals in their 2-0 win over Liverpool.
Rantala opened the scoring in the 15th minute, capitalizing on a rebound after Janice Cayman’s shot hit the post. She then doubled her tally in the 63rd minute, finishing off a swift counter-attack with a strike that hit the crossbar before finding the back of the net.
The defeat leaves Liverpool still searching for their first home win since November.
