Mary Earps has signed with Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer after leaving Manchester United, where she was the England goalkeeper.

Mary Earps, the talented goalkeeper, has made a sensational move to Paris Saint-Germain after leaving Manchester United. The 31-year-old, who had announced her departure from United last week, has signed a two-year deal with the Division 1 Feminine side.

Earps had rejected a new deal from United after careful consideration, bringing an end to her five-year spell at the club. She joined United from Wolfsburg in 2019 and enjoyed her only trophy success with the club last season, winning the Women’s FA Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur with a resounding 4-0 victory.

However, despite the cup triumph, it was a disappointing campaign for Marc Skinner’s side as they finished fifth in the Women’s Super League, a staggering 15 points behind Arsenal in the race for a UEFA Women’s Champions League spot.

On the other hand, PSG, who have narrowly missed out on the Division 1 Feminine title to Lyon for the past three seasons, regularly compete in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Earps expressed her excitement about joining the French club, stating, “Joining Paris Saint-Germain is a fantastic opportunity. I’m very honoured to become a Parisian and I can’t wait to play alongside my new teammates.”

Earps’ rise to prominence came after her crucial role in England’s Euro 2022 victory on home soil. She also played in all seven matches as England reached the final of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, narrowly losing 1-0 to Spain. Her exceptional performances earned her the title of the best women’s goalkeeper in the world for the second consecutive year at The Best FIFA Football Awards in January, making her the first player to achieve such a feat.

In addition, Earps achieved a remarkable fifth-place finish in the Ballon d’Or Feminin rankings last October, the highest-ever position for a goalkeeper. Reflecting on her decision to leave United, Earps admitted to going “backwards and forwards” before ultimately deciding that now is the right time for a new challenge.

With Earps and Manchester United captain Katie Zelem both departing the club, United will undoubtedly face a period of transition. However, Earps is eager to contribute to Paris Saint-Germain’s future success and help the club maintain its status among Europe’s top clubs.
