Marc Guehi, a defender for Crystal Palace and the English national team, will be unavailable for selection for a period of up to eight weeks following a knee surgery.
Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi has suffered a major setback with a minor knee surgery that will keep him out of action for up to eight weeks. The injury occurred during Palace’s Premier League match against Brighton on February 3, which they lost 4-1. Initially, it was thought that Guehi would only be sidelined for a couple of weeks, but the decision was made to proceed with surgery.
This unfortunate timing could potentially affect Guehi’s chances of making it into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024. He will miss the upcoming March international break, during which England will play friendlies against Brazil and Belgium at Wembley. Guehi has already earned nine caps for England since his debut in March 2022 against Switzerland.
Despite this setback, Guehi remains determined to make a comeback in time for the final few games of the Premier League season. His goal is to prove his fitness and readiness to represent his country in the summer tournament in Germany.
Guehi’s absence will undoubtedly be a blow to Crystal Palace and their new manager Oliver Glasner. In what has been a challenging season, Guehi has emerged as one of the team’s key players. Palace started Glasner’s tenure with a convincing 3-0 victory over Burnley, and they will resume their campaign with an away fixture against Tottenham on March 2.
