United hope to land De Ligt
Manchester United are optimistic about their chances of signing Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich, according to The Mirror. The Dutch central defender is valued at £43 million, and manager Erik ten Hag has already been in contact. Ten Hag has spoken to De Ligt to outline his plans for United, following the club’s decision to extend his contract. Despite the lack of a ringing endorsement from new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Ten Hag has assured De Ligt that his job is safe and that he will be a key part of the team’s defensive strategy.
De Ligt is determined to force through the move after the Euros, and Bayern will not stand in his way if United meet their valuation.
Van de Beek set for La Liga move
Donny van de Beek is set to sign for La Liga side Girona on a cut-price deal, as reported by the Daily Express. The 27-year-old Dutchman is expected to join Girona for just £430,000 after struggling to make an impact at Old Trafford. Van de Beek arrived at United four years ago with high expectations after his success with Ajax, but failed to live up to them and had unsuccessful loan spells with Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Girona, who secured Champions League football last season, believe that Van de Beek can rediscover his form and have moved to secure a bargain deal.
Calafiori agrees terms with Arsenal
Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori, according to The Sun. While a deal between the clubs has not been finalized, Arsenal have beaten out competition from Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain for the 22-year-old’s signature. Calafiori impressed during his debut for Italy in the summer’s major tournament, making three appearances in the Euro 2024 group stages.
Arsenal are yet to reach an agreement with Bologna, but Calafiori has approved a five-year deal worth £3.4 million per year.
Fulham hope to renew Willian deal
Fulham are hoping to retain veteran winger Willian, who is currently out of contract, reports the Evening Standard. The 35-year-old has offers from Brazilian clubs, but Fulham are keen to keep him and are offering a one-year deal. Willian, who turns 36 next month, has stated that he is only willing to sign one-year contracts at this stage of his career.
