Manchester United are aiming to sign Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt for a fee of £55 million.

England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has called on his team to “step up” their performance ahead of their quarter-final clash against Switzerland. After a hard-fought victory against Germany in the Round of 16, Pickford believes that England will need to raise their game even further to overcome a strong Swiss side. Speaking to reporters, Pickford said, “We know that Switzerland will be a tough opponent, and we need to be at our best to progress in the tournament. It’s time for us to step up and show what we’re capable of.”

Manchester United are reportedly targeting Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt as they look to strengthen their defensive options. After failing with their initial bid for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, United have turned their attention to De Ligt. The Dutch centre-back previously worked with United manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, and it is believed that Ten Hag is keen to reunite with De Ligt at Old Trafford. United are willing to offer De Ligt a five-year deal to kickstart his career in the Premier League. With three years left on his current contract, De Ligt has emerged as a top target for United following Everton’s refusal to lower their asking price for Branthwaite.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are closing in on the signing of Celta Vigo striker Jorgen Strand Larsen. The Norwegian forward, who can also play on the wing, is set to join Wolves on an initial loan deal worth £3 million. The transfer can then be made permanent next summer for a further £23 million. Larsen attracted interest from several Premier League and Serie A clubs after an impressive season, where he scored 13 goals. However, Wolves have moved ahead in the race to sign him after opening talks with the player’s representatives.

Burnley could be set to lose both Aro Muric and James Trafford as they prepare for life in the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League. Muric, who impressed towards the end of last season, has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, as well as teams abroad. The Kosovan goalkeeper is keen to secure a starting role elsewhere. Trafford, on the other hand, has also caught the eye of potential suitors, with Newcastle United among those interested in the England Under-21 stopper.

Crystal Palace are considering a move for Ryan Sessegnon after the left wing-back became a free agent following his departure from Tottenham Hotspur. Sessegnon, who has struggled with injuries, has been training with Palace as talks between the player and the club continue. Palace manager Oliver Glasner has been impressed with Sessegnon since his loan spell at Hoffenheim and sees him as competition for Tyrick Mitchell in the left wing-back position. The 24-year-old Londoner is close to regaining full fitness after undergoing surgery on a hamstring injury and could provide a valuable addition to Palace’s squad.
