In a significant transfer move, Manchester City have officially announced the signing of defender Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a reported fee of £31 million.
The 24-year-old defender made a notable impact during his time at Wolves, featuring in 37 Premier League matches last season, where he scored four goals and provided seven assists. His performances have long attracted the attention of City, and he has now committed to a deal that will see him at The Etihad until 2030.
Ait-Nouri expressed his delight at joining one of the world’s most prestigious clubs. “I am incredibly happy and honoured to have joined Manchester City,” he stated. “City are one of the biggest clubs in the world and the chance to play for the club is a dream come true.”
The Algerian international also shared his enthusiasm about working under Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff. “I am also excited about working with and learning from Pep and his coaching team and getting to train and play alongside such a world-class group of players,” he added. “Joining City is also a very proud moment for my family too. Now I can’t wait to get started and to play in front of our supporters.”
Wolves had a challenging season, finishing 16th in the Premier League despite a rocky start. Meanwhile, City, who ended the season in second place, had to recover from a poor run of form early on.
Ait-Nouri will be available to represent City at the FIFA Club World Cup this summer, adding depth to their squad. City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, expressed his satisfaction with the signing. “Rayan is a player that as a Club we have been following closely for quite some time and we are delighted he has joined us,” he said.
Viana highlighted Ait-Nouri’s Premier League experience and international quality with Algeria, stating, “We feel sure that he will be an excellent addition to our squad and that working alongside Pep and his coaching staff will help develop his game even further. And at just 24, he is someone we feel sure will help us in our objective to bring more success to the Club.”
