Lille maintains their position in third place in Ligue 1 following a win over local rival Lens, thanks to Edon Zhegrova’s two goals.

Liverpool and Bayern Munich have suffered a setback in their pursuit of midfielder Edon Zhegrova. The player has confirmed that he will be staying at Bayer Leverkusen. Zhegrova’s impressive performance helped Lille secure a 2-1 victory over local rivals Lens in Ligue 1 on Friday night.

Lille entered the match with the goal of closing the gap on second-placed Brest. On the other hand, Lens, sitting in sixth place, were hoping to secure European football for next season after a disappointing Champions League campaign.

Zhegrova made an impact early on, opening the scoring for Lille after just nine minutes. He showed great composure as he controlled a high ball in the penalty area and curled a shot into the near post. This goal set the tone for the rest of the match.

The midfielder was involved in a controversial incident when he was fouled by Facundo Medina. Initially, Medina was shown a red card, but the decision was overturned upon review due to minimal contact between the two players.

Zhegrova continued to shine and secured his brace in the 60th minute, capitalizing on a rebound. This performance is likely to catch the attention of Liverpool and Bayern Munich, who have been monitoring his progress.

Lens managed to reduce the deficit with 12 minutes remaining, thanks to a well-taken goal by Elye Wahi. However, Lille held on to secure the victory and maintain their position in third place, while Lens remain in sixth.

Both teams will now focus on their upcoming weekend fixtures as they aim to continue their respective campaigns on a positive note.
