Kylian Mbappe, the French football sensation, has set his sights on representing his country at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. However, the final decision lies beyond his control.

Mbappe is set to depart Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires on June 30, with a move to Real Madrid on a free transfer widely anticipated.

Despite his desire to compete in the Olympics on home soil, Mbappe acknowledges that external factors may prevent him from doing so. Speaking at a press conference ahead of France’s friendly against Germany, the 25-year-old stated, “I have always had the same ambition: the Olympics in Paris are special. I have always said that I wanted to be there but that does not depend on me. My ambition hasn’t changed. The decision still belongs to the same person. I can’t say anything, I haven’t been told yes or no.”

Mbappe has always been tight-lipped about his future, and when pressed on who would make the final call, he responded, “PSG is the club with which I am under contract.” However, with his move to Real Madrid expected to be finalized before the Olympics, it is likely that the Spanish giants will have a say in his participation.

Reaching a pivotal point in his career, Mbappe is prepared to accept whatever decision is made. He expressed, “I have arrived at a point in my career where I take a step back: if I go there (to the Olympics), I will live a dream awake. And if I don’t, I’ll accept and do what I’m told.”

Mbappe’s time at Paris Saint-Germain is certainly ending on a high note, with an impressive record of 38 goals in 37 games across all competitions. His most recent standout performance was a hat-trick in a 6-2 victory over Montpellier on March 17.

While many would assume that Mbappe’s imminent move to Real Madrid would leave Barcelona feeling envious, club president Joan Laporta insists otherwise. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Laporta dismissed any feelings of jealousy, stating, “No, not at all. Also, I don’t know if they will or won’t. We’ll see. If they do, they have a problem there. You have to sell a player (if Mbappe arrives), right? Because they are not both going to play in the same place and they are also very marked players.”
