In the Women’s Super League, Manchester City dominated against Brighton, Liverpool emerged victorious against West Ham, and Bristol City had a player sent off in their loss to Manchester United.
Manchester City continued their dominant form in the Women’s Super League with a convincing 4-1 victory over Brighton. The reigning champions secured their 10th consecutive win in the league, putting them level on points with leaders Chelsea.
City took the lead in the 27th minute when Jess Park played a precise pass to find Lauren Hemp, who slotted the ball past Brighton goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley. Hemp turned provider later in the game, setting up Mary Fowler for City’s second goal.
Khadija Shaw extended City’s lead in the 69th minute, before Laura Coombs added a fourth goal, finishing off Fowler’s assist. However, former City player Lee Geum-Min managed to score a consolation goal for Brighton, capitalizing on a lapse in concentration from the City defense.
Liverpool also secured a victory, defeating West Ham 3-1. The Reds struggled to break down their opponents but managed to take the lead just before halftime through Leanne Kiernan. In the second half, substitute Missy Bo Kearns and Sophie Roman Haug added two more goals for Liverpool. Riko Ueki scored a late consolation goal for West Ham, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome of the match.
Manchester United emerged victorious in their clash against Bristol City, winning 2-0. Lisa Naalsund was the star of the game, scoring both goals for United. Her first goal came from a powerful left-footed shot, while her second was a well-taken volley from a corner. Bristol City’s chances of a comeback were diminished when Jamie-Lee Napier was sent off for a late tackle on United’s Geyse.
The win keeps Manchester United in fourth place, ahead of Liverpool on goal difference. Bristol City remains at the bottom of the table with six points. The day’s final game saw Tottenham host Leicester City.
