Harry Maguire is extremely upset about not being able to participate in Euro 2024, while Jack Grealish is also set to be dropped by England manager Gareth Southgate.

A good night for us – Southgate reacts to England’s win over Bosnia and Herzegovina

In a disappointing turn of events, Harry Maguire has confirmed that he will miss Euro 2024 due to his ongoing injury. Despite following an individual training plan in an attempt to regain his fitness, the Manchester United defender has been unable to recover in time.

Maguire suffered a calf injury back in April, causing him to miss the last five matches of his club’s season. This news comes as a blow to both Maguire and the England squad, as he played in all eight of England’s Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Maguire took to social media to express his devastation at not being able to make the final selection. He admitted that he may have pushed himself too hard in his efforts to be fit for the tournament. It is a tough blow for the player, who had high hopes of representing his country on the European stage.

In addition to Maguire’s absence, James Maddison and Curtis Jones have also been cut from Gareth Southgate’s group. Maddison expressed his devastation at being released, believing that he could have brought something different to the team in Germany.

Southgate initially selected a provisional 33-man training group, but he must now drop seven players by Friday’s deadline. The final squad of 26 players must be submitted for the tournament.

Maguire’s injury struggles have been a cause for concern, as he faced a lack of game-time towards the end of the season. Manchester City’s retention of the Premier League title meant that Maguire did not feature in their final four matches. However, he did make an appearance off the bench during England’s friendly win against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday.

Looking ahead, England’s Euro 2024 campaign will kick off against Serbia on June 16. They will then face further group stage matches against Denmark and Slovenia on June 20 and June 25 respectively.

Southgate will now have to make some tough decisions as he finalizes his squad for the tournament. The absence of Maguire will undoubtedly be felt, but the team will need to rally together and make the most of their remaining resources.
