Gunners manage to secure a victory against Spurs in the derby, extending their lead at the top of the table.
In a thrilling North London derby, Bukayo Saka proved to be the hero as Arsenal secured a crucial 3-2 victory over Tottenham, boosting their chances of clinching the Premier League title. The young England winger played a pivotal role in the match, contributing to two of Arsenal’s goals.
Saka’s right-wing corner caused chaos in the Tottenham defense, resulting in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg inadvertently turning the ball into his own net just 15 minutes into the game. Saka then showcased his attacking prowess by doubling Arsenal’s lead with a clinical finish from a lightning-fast counter-attack shortly before the half-hour mark.
Arsenal continued to dominate proceedings and effectively sealed the victory in the 38th minute when Kai Havertz headed in from another well-executed corner routine. Tottenham had their fair share of opportunities, with Cristian Romero and Heung-Min Son squandering big chances, and Micky van de Ven having a goal disallowed for a marginal offside.
However, Tottenham managed to mount a comeback in the second half. Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya’s mistake gifted the ball to Romero, who calmly reduced the deficit in the 64th minute. Son Heung-Min then converted a penalty, awarded after a VAR review, in the dying minutes of the game. Despite the late scare, Arsenal held on to secure a vital victory.
With this win, Arsenal now sit four points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table, although City still have two games in hand. The defeat is a significant blow to Tottenham’s hopes of finishing in the top four, as they remain in fifth place, seven points behind Aston Villa with two games in hand.
Looking ahead, Arsenal will be aiming to maintain their title push when they face Bournemouth on Saturday. Meanwhile, Tottenham have a tough schedule ahead, with a visit to Chelsea on Thursday followed by a trip to Liverpool on Sunday.
