Exclusive with Son Heung-min: The Tottenham Hotspur captain states that ‘one is not sufficient’ for Harry Kane following the striker’s first significant career title.
First major trophy feels ‘amazing’ for Kane – ‘I hope there are many more to come’
In a momentous occasion for Harry Kane, the England captain has finally claimed his first major title, ending a 15-year wait for silverware. The striker’s long-awaited triumph came earlier this month as Bayern Munich secured their 12th Bundesliga title in 13 years.
Kane celebrated this significant achievement on Saturday, lifting the trophy after a commanding victory at home against Borussia Monchengladbach, where he also netted his 25th league goal of the season.
Son Heung-min, Kane’s former teammate at Tottenham Hotspur, expressed his joy for the striker but also emphasized that “one is not good enough” for a player of Kane’s caliber. Son believes that Kane deserves further accolades “more than anyone” due to his exceptional talent and the sacrifices he has made throughout his career.
In an exclusive interview with TNT Sports, Son shared, “We’re still good friends, best mates, so I called him, I texted him, and he FaceTimed me. He was very, very happy, and then I’m just happy to see him smiling, happy to see him lift the trophy that he deserves more than anyone else. What a fantastic moment for him.”
Reflecting on Kane’s achievement, Son added, “I hope there are many more to come. I think one is not good enough for Harry – the ability, the quality he has, I think he deserves more than anyone else. It’s not only because I’m a friend of him, the way he sacrificed, the way he works. What a player and well-deserving.”
Despite his prolific scoring record of 280 goals for Spurs, Kane was unable to secure a trophy during his time at the club. However, his former side now has the chance to end their own 17-year wait for a major title as they prepare to face Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final later this month.
Son, who remains at Spurs, believes that Kane will be cheering for his old club as they aim to lift the Europa League trophy. “I’m sure that Harry is still watching our games and supporting us because I think there are a lot of friends who are still playing here,” he said. “Harry will probably just wish us all the best; he will be a Spurs supporter on the day, I have no doubt.”
The partnership between Son and Kane was one for the ages, with their 47 goal combinations standing as the most prolific duo in Premier League history. As Kane basks in the glory of his first major trophy, the football world eagerly anticipates what the future holds for both players.
