Exclusive: Liverpool star Mohamed Salah shares insights from Arsenal icon Arsene Wenger, contributing to his ‘most outstanding season.’

In an exclusive interview with TNT Sports expert Steve McManaman, Mohamed Salah has opened up about the pivotal advice he received from former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger. This guidance has played a significant role in his development as a top-tier player.

Salah is currently enjoying a remarkable season, having propelled Arne Slot’s side to an impressive 11-point lead over Arsenal at the summit of the Premier League table. As they prepare for a crucial midweek clash against Newcastle—available to watch on TNT Sports and discovery+—Salah’s contributions have been nothing short of vital.

During the interview, McManaman posed an intriguing question to Salah about the distinction between good and great players, particularly in their ability to score match-winning goals. Salah readily agreed, recalling the sage advice he received from Wenger.

“I think I got that advice from Arsène Wenger in the past,” Salah revealed. “I asked him the same question, as he had great players in his career. He told me: ‘The great players, it does not matter how he performs in the game. He always stays focused and waits for the moment. He’s always in the game.’ I took that to heart a few years ago.”

Salah elaborated on the importance of emotional stability in football, acknowledging that players often experience fluctuating emotions during matches. “I don’t want my emotions to be like this,” he said. “I just try to be stable and understand that not every game you’re going to have your best performance. If you stay focused, maybe you will have one chance.”

While Salah tends to avoid engaging in trash talk with opposing defenders, he exudes confidence in his ability to capitalise on any opportunity that comes his way. “If some of them try to trash talk, I don’t like to engage,” he stated. “I tell them: ‘I don’t need much, I just need one chance, just one chance, and you will pay for it.'”

This season, Salah has been in sensational form, netting 30 goals and providing 21 assists across all competitions. The 32-year-old believes this is his best campaign since joining Liverpool in 2017, attributing part of his success to his ability to elevate the performance of those around him.

“I think it is my best season,” Salah asserted. “I make the players around me better as well, that is what I feel. If you look at all the numbers around all the players, it is going to be higher than in other seasons. Plus, my assists are higher, so that means I really help them a lot.”

He highlighted the impressive performances of teammates like Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz, stating, “Their seasons are the best in their careers—so, I think this is my best season because I make the players around me better.”

Salah’s outstanding performances have placed him in contention for the 2025 Ballon d’Or. However, he remains focused on team success rather than individual accolades. “Let’s win the Premier League and the Champions League, and we will see,” he said. “The Ballon d’Or, everybody knows sometimes there are other factors involved. I just want to win the Premier League and Champions League. Hopefully.”

As Salah continues to shine on the pitch, Liverpool fans will be hoping his focus on collective success will lead to silverware this season.
