Exclusive interview with Phil Foden: The talented Manchester City player aims to achieve a prominent role as the focal point of the team this season.
Manchester City’s English midfielder, Phil Foden, has expressed his desire to become the “main man” at the club as they aim to build on their Treble-winning season. Foden played a crucial role in City’s success last season, making 48 appearances and scoring 15 goals across all competitions. Despite already winning every trophy at club level, the 23-year-old remains motivated to improve and help the club maintain their remarkable era of success.
Foden has already made an impact this season, helping City win the UEFA Super Cup and scoring in the FIFA Club World Cup final. He also secured the second hat-trick of his career against Brentford in the Premier League. Speaking on TNT Sports’ show ‘Around The Block’, Foden outlined his objectives for the season, stating his ambition to be one of the best players in the Premier League and contribute to goals and assists.
The rise of Foden through City’s academy has paved the way for other young players, such as Rico Lewis and Oscar Bobb, to get their chance. Foden acknowledges the added pressure that comes with being a homegrown talent but believes it makes him a better player. He thrives under pressure and enjoys the challenge of stepping up in big games.
Foden also praised his City teammate, Kevin De Bruyne, highlighting his importance to the team. De Bruyne recently made a successful comeback from injury and played a crucial role in City’s comeback win against Newcastle United. Foden described De Bruyne as one of the top three best players in the world, emphasizing his unique passing and crossing abilities.
Currently sitting second in the league table behind Liverpool, City have also progressed to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League. They are set to face Luton Town in the FA Cup quarter-finals. Foden revealed that City manager Pep Guardiola challenged the players to continue winning trophies in a pre-season talk, and Foden is confident in their chances. The hunger and motivation to replicate last season’s success are still present within the team, and Foden hopes they can continue winning games and reach the latter stages of competitions.
