Everton has decided to drop their appeal regarding the second points deduction in accordance with the Premier League spending regulations and accept the penalty.
Everton Football Club, in a statement released on Friday, has confirmed that they will not be appealing their second points deduction for breaching the Premier League profitability and sustainability rules. The Toffees were hit with a two-point deduction on April 8 due to an overspend of £16.6m up until 2023. This comes after they were initially docked 10 points, which was later reduced to six on appeal, for the period leading up to 2022.
The decision from Everton comes shortly after Nottingham Forest’s appeal against their own four-point deduction was rejected earlier this week. The club’s statement stated that the independent commission’s hearing, which was scheduled to take place next week, will no longer proceed.
Despite the eight-point deduction, Everton has been enjoying a remarkable run of form under the guidance of manager Sean Dyche. They currently sit comfortably in 15th place in the Premier League table, with a comfortable 11-point gap separating them from 18th-placed Luton Town. With just two games remaining, Everton is mathematically safe from relegation.
However, there are reports suggesting that the club could still face further penalties. The previous hearing failed to reach a resolution regarding stadium interest payments between Everton and the Premier League. It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold for the club in the future.
