Erik ten Hag is included in Manchester United’s plans for the upcoming season.
Ten Hag set for United stay
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag looks set to remain at the club for another season, according to The Mirror. Despite facing pressure this season, the club is reportedly unwilling to make any decisions without the input of prospective sporting director, Dan Ashworth. Ten Hag’s future has been the subject of speculation, especially since the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos at Old Trafford. However, it now seems likely that the former Ajax chief will be given more time by the club’s new hierarchy. Manchester United are including Ten Hag in their plans for next season, with the club keen to have Ashworth in place before making a final decision. Ten Hag is contracted until 2025.
Evans could also extend spell
Defender Jonny Evans may also stay at Old Trafford, depending on other transfers in and out of the club in the summer. The Daily Mail reports that the 36-year-old Northern Ireland international’s retirement is not imminent, despite recent speculation. Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill dismissed the rumors, and United sources have cast doubt on the prospect of Evans calling it a day at the end of the season. Whether he will receive a contract extension or have to find a new club remains to be seen. Evans earned a one-year deal when he returned to Old Trafford last summer, but a new offer will depend on new signings and United’s other centre-backs.
Arsenal chase Sporting defender
Arsenal and Chelsea are both interested in Sporting Lisbon’s centre-back, Ousmane Diomande, according to The Sun. The 20-year-old Ivory Coast international has caught the eye of Arsenal scouts and has a release clause of £68.6 million. Arsenal are considering a summer bid for Diomande, who impressed during a scouting mission at a Sporting vs Benfica match. Chelsea are also likely to compete for the player, whose release clause could drop to £50 million with add-ons.
Brighton track Cluj winger Philip Otele
Brighton is keeping an eye on CFR Cluj winger Philip Otele, who has made a name for himself in Romania’s top-flight. The 24-year-old has 13 goals and six assists in 30 league matches and has attracted the attention of Brighton’s data-driven approach. Valued at around £3 million by Cluj, Otele may initially be loaned out to partner club Union St Gilloise in Belgium before getting a chance in the Premier League.
