Declan Rice is hoping to persuade his Arsenal teammate to change his mind about rejecting England.
Enfield, England – Declan Rice, the newly appointed captain of the England national team, expressed his desire to convince his Arsenal teammate, Ben White, to return to international duty.
White, 26, has not represented England since leaving the team during the 2022 World Cup and declined a call-up for the March international break ahead of Euro 2024.
Speaking before the game against Belgium on Tuesday, Rice highlighted White’s versatility as a player, stating, “He’s a really unique player because he can play three positions. In tournaments, that’s so key. He can play centre-back, he can play right-back, he can play inverted full-back.”
Rice expressed his intention to have a conversation with White when they are back at Arsenal to discuss the possibility of his return to the national team.
Rice further revealed that he, along with Bukayo Saka and Aaron Ramsdale, would be urging White to reconsider his decision. However, he acknowledged that ultimately, it is White’s life and decision.
Rice mentioned that he is unaware of the details surrounding White’s absence but emphasized his desire to have him on the team, praising his commitment and dedication on the pitch.
Reflecting on his own appointment as captain, Rice described it as a “pinch-me” moment in his career. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to walk out at Wembley in front of his family and friends on his 50th cap.
Rice acknowledged his growth as both a player and a person since joining the national team, stating that he has relished every moment and is honored to lead the team.
