In a significant move, Chelsea have secured the services of Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo from Sporting CP for a combined fee of approximately £62.4 million.
Essugo, currently on loan at La Liga side Las Palmas, will make his way to Stamford Bridge for a transfer fee of £18.4 million. Meanwhile, Quenda will remain with Sporting until the conclusion of the next season, while Essugo is set to join the Chelsea squad at the end of the current campaign.
Quenda, a highly-rated winger, has made quite an impression at the Estadio Jose Alvalade under the guidance of current Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim. This season, he has netted one goal and provided five assists in 26 league appearances. Notably, he also played a pivotal role in Sporting’s 4-1 victory over Premier League champions Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League earlier this term.
On the other hand, defensive midfielder Essugo has featured in 17 La Liga matches this season, contributing one goal to his name.
In other news, Jordan Pickford expressed his excitement about working with Thomas Tuchel, stating, “We’ve got a great manager.”
The 20-year-old Essugo is not the only promising talent set to join Chelsea this summer. Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez are also on their way to the Premier League giants, having signed for Chelsea in June 2024 and June 2023, respectively.
