Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, believes that Xavi made the right choice by deciding to stay at Barcelona.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has praised Xavi Hernandez for his decision to stay on as Barcelona boss until next season. Xavi had previously announced that he would leave at the end of the current campaign but had a change of heart after a meeting with club president Joan Laporta. Ancelotti believes it is the correct decision for Xavi to continue at the club, stating that he has done a good job and knows Barcelona well.
Despite winning La Liga last season, Barcelona is currently 11 points behind Real Madrid and has been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League. Xavi had previously described his job as “cruel and unpleasant.” When asked about the importance of a person’s word or a contract, Ancelotti stated that people are allowed to change their opinion and that it is not in writing.
Ancelotti is not concerned heading into the final weeks of the season, as Real Madrid only needs seven points to secure the league title. However, they face a tough Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich on April 30. Ancelotti confirmed that Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo are both suffering from illness, with Bellingham being left out of the squad due to gastroenteritis.
The controversy surrounding Real Madrid’s 3-2 El Clasico victory against Barcelona did not faze Ancelotti. Barcelona president Laporta threatened to request a replay of the match after a goal-bound attempt was not given as a goal. Xavi himself criticized the officiating and the lack of goal-line technology in the league. Ancelotti responded by stating that differences of opinion should be respected and that words and complaints are blown away by the wind. He remains focused on finishing the season in a fantastic way.
