Barcelona has signed England goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck from Manchester City.
England goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck has made a sensational move to Barcelona on a free transfer, following the expiration of her contract at Manchester City. The talented shot-stopper has agreed to a deal that will keep her at the Spanish club until the summer of 2026.
Roebuck, who spent an impressive nine years at Manchester City, has come a long way since her days in the youth team, eventually earning a spot in the senior squad. During her time at City, she achieved great success, including winning the Women’s Super League title in 2016. Additionally, Roebuck leaves the club with three FA Cup medals and three League Cup triumphs.
Joining the reigning European champions, who secured the UEFA Women’s Champions League title by defeating Lyon in May, Roebuck will be reunited with familiar faces at Barcelona. Former Manchester City players Lucy Bronze and Keira Walsh, who also represent the Lionesses, have been plying their trade in Catalonia for the past two seasons.
Expressing her excitement about the move, Roebuck said, “I am very excited. I’d been waiting for this chance for a long time. I’m very happy to be here. You could say that now everything fits and this was the perfect time to come. I want to test myself and live a new experience. There’s nowhere better to do that than here, so I’m really grateful to get this opportunity. I like to play with the ball at my feet and this is the perfect team to do that with. I enjoy possession and playing out from the back, so I hope to contribute my style.”
Barcelona has been active in the transfer market, with the recent addition of Polish striker Ewa Pajor from Wolfsburg on a three-year deal. The club is clearly determined to strengthen their squad as they aim for continued success in the upcoming seasons.
