Aston Villa failed to secure a win in a thrilling draw in the Premier League, while Luton scored a last-minute goal to improve their chances of avoiding relegation.
Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins was the hero of the match as he scored twice in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Brentford at Villa Park. Despite Villa taking a two-goal lead, Brentford fought back to secure a point.
Watkins, who is vying for a spot in the England squad for Euro 2024, made an impressive return from injury with a close-range header to give Villa the lead. Morgan Rogers then doubled their advantage with a brilliant strike into the bottom-right corner.
However, Brentford quickly pulled a goal back through Mathias Jorgensen before Bryan Mbeumo completed the comeback with a volley from the edge of the six-yard box. Yoane Wissa then gave Brentford the lead with a tap-in.
But Watkins wasn’t finished yet, as he scored his second goal of the game to salvage a point for Villa. The result leaves Villa just three points ahead of Tottenham in the race for the top four.
In other matches, Luton Town secured a crucial 2-1 victory against Bournemouth in their battle for survival. Jordan Clark and Carlton Morris were the heroes for Luton as they came from behind to claim three points.
West Ham United also had a dramatic comeback, winning 2-1 against Wolves. James Ward-Prowse scored a memorable goal from a corner to give West Ham the lead, and Wolves had a late equalizer ruled out for offside.
Newcastle secured a narrow 1-0 win against Fulham thanks to Bruno Guimaraes’ late goal. It was Newcastle’s first away victory since February.
Everton ended their winless streak with a 1-0 victory against 10-man Burnley. Dominic Calvert-Lewin capitalized on a mistake from Burnley’s goalkeeper to score the only goal of the game.
In other news, Kevin De Bruyne scored his 100th goal for Manchester City in their 4-2 win against Crystal Palace, keeping the pressure on Arsenal and Liverpool in the title race.
