Arsenal encounter difficulty in securing Riccardo Calafiori, while England contemplate hiring Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Bologna centre-half Riccardo Calafiori has hit a snag. The Italian club and Basel are at odds over a sell-on clause. The Gunners have been eager to secure the services of the Italian defender. However, negotiations have come to a standstill. Bologna threatens to abandon the deal unless Basel agrees to accept a reduced fee. Despite having the best defensive record in the Premier League, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his backline, particularly at left-back.

In other news, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is reportedly being considered as a potential replacement for Gareth Southgate as England manager. The Football Association is compiling a shortlist of candidates. The Australian coach is expected to be included. FA technical director John McDermott has been closely following Postecoglou’s career and admires his work. While an interim manager may be in charge for the upcoming Nations League ties, Postecoglou could be a long-term option for the national team.

Former Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus is said to be on the verge of signing for MLS side LA Galaxy. The German veteran left Dortmund at the end of last season and is now free to join the American team. LA Galaxy is closing in on a deal to secure Reus. He confirmed earlier this year that he would be leaving Dortmund after the 2023/24 season. LA Galaxy is currently performing well in the MLS.

Meanwhile, West Ham’s hopes of signing Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo may be dashed. The player is holding out for a move to Juventus. The Hammers have reached an agreement with Nice for a loan deal with an option to sign Todibo permanently next summer. However, competition from Juventus and the need to finalize personal terms could complicate West Ham’s pursuit of the 24-year-old Frenchman. Todibo impressed in Ligue 1 last season and has previously been linked with Manchester United.
