Aleksandar Pavlovic from Germany will not be able to participate in Euro 2024 due to tonsillitis, and Emre Can has been selected as his replacement.

In a blow to Germany’s Euro 2024 preparations, Aleksandar Pavlovic has been ruled out of the squad due to tonsillitis just two days before the tournament kicks off on home soil.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who made his national debut earlier this month, had been named in Julian Nagelsmann’s full squad for the competition. However, Borussia Dortmund’s Emre Can has been called up to replace him.

Can, who has 43 caps for Germany, last featured for the national team in September 2023. Despite being only 30 years old, he is a well-known name in European football and brings valuable experience to the squad.

Nagelsmann expressed his enthusiasm for Can’s inclusion, stating that they wanted a player who has played a lot of games and knows how to handle pressure.

Can had a successful season with Dortmund, leading them to the Champions League final. However, he was initially left out of Germany’s final 26-player squad. Now, he has the opportunity to make an impact and contribute to his country’s success in the tournament.

Germany, as the hosts, have high expectations for Euro 2024. They will kick off the competition against Scotland on 14 June in Munich. Nagelsmann, the head coach, has made it clear that the team should have the desire to win the tournament.

With the addition of Can, they hope to strengthen their chances and make a strong start to their campaign.

The absence of Pavlovic is undoubtedly a setback, but Germany remains determined to perform at their best. As they embark on their Euro 2024 journey, the team will be eager to showcase their skills and compete for the ultimate prize on home soil.
