A Premier League team is interested in Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher as rumors connect Luis Diaz to Barcelona.
Bournemouth Lead the Charge for Kelleher
Bournemouth are reportedly at the forefront of the race to secure the services of Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher this summer, according to The Sun. Following Liverpool’s recent Carabao Cup final defeat to Newcastle, it appears that Kelleher may have played his final match for the Merseyside club.
The young shot-stopper, who has been serving as the backup to Alisson Becker, is eager to leave Liverpool in pursuit of regular first-team football. With interest from clubs such as Chelsea, Tottenham, and Newcastle, Bournemouth could provide the opportunity he seeks.
The Sun further reveals that Bournemouth are poised to make the first move, placing them in a strong position to land Kelleher. Manager Andoni Iraola has identified the signing of a goalkeeper as a top priority, with Kelleher being his primary target.
Iraola has relied on on-loan goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for much of the season, but with no obligation to buy in the loan agreement with Chelsea, the Spaniard’s performances have been inconsistent. Earlier in the season, he was even dropped in favour of another young Irish talent, Mark Travers, who is currently on loan at Middlesbrough.
Diaz Linked with Barcelona Move
In other transfer news, Liverpool winger Luis Diaz is reportedly attracting interest from Barcelona, with speculation mounting that he could leave Anfield at the end of the season. The Colombian international was on the radar of the Catalan giants last summer, but financial constraints prevented a deal from materialising, with Liverpool demanding a hefty £75 million.
However, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has suggested that it is now a “concrete possibility” that Diaz could be shown the exit door soon. Despite having a contract that runs until the summer of 2027, Liverpool may consider cashing in on the player to avoid the risk of him running down his deal.
Romano anticipates that Barcelona will make another approach for Diaz, as he is highly regarded by their transfer chiefs.
Howe’s Bonus on the Line?
Eddie Howe could be in line for a £3 million bonus if Newcastle United manage to qualify for the Champions League, as reported by the Telegraph. Fresh off their League Cup triumph, the report outlines the financial incentives awaiting Howe should his side secure a spot in Europe’s elite competition.
Having signed a new long-term contract last season, Howe has already made history by leading Newcastle to their first major trophy in decades. The next target is to finish in the top five, which would likely guarantee a Champions League berth for English clubs.
The Telegraph notes that, having secured at least a place in the European Conference League by winning the Carabao Cup, Howe is now setting his sights on a top-five finish. Achieving this would see his salary rise by 50%, bringing it to around £9 million a year. Currently, Newcastle sit sixth in the table, just two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, with a game in hand.
In a touching moment following the League Cup victory, the normally reserved Howe struggled to contain his emotions, dedicating the win to his late mother, Anne. Since taking the reins in November 2021, this trophy has been his ultimate goal, marking not only the first major trophy of his managerial career but also establishing him as the most successful Newcastle manager in 70 years. The club last lifted domestic silverware in 1955, when they won the FA Cup.
