Wolverhampton Wanderers, despite being a player down, manage to secure a rematch with Brentford in the FA Cup. Meanwhile, Fulham narrowly defeat Rotherham United in the third round.

Ten-man Wolves managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Brentford at the Gtech Stadium, ensuring their survival in the FA Cup for another day. The game got off to a dramatic start as Wolves midfielder Jeanricner Bellegarde was sent off after just nine minutes for a dangerous tackle on Brentford’s Christian Norgaard, who was forced off the pitch as a result.

Despite being down to ten men, Wolves held their own and it was Brentford’s Neal Maupay who broke the deadlock with a goal four minutes before half-time. Maupay capitalized on a chaotic situation in the penalty box and unleashed a powerful left-footed shot to put Brentford in the lead.

However, Wolves fought back and equalized just after the hour mark through Tommy Doyle. Doyle unleashed a stunning long-range strike that found the top-right corner of the net, leaving Brentford goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha with no chance of saving it.

This match highlighted the desperate need for a goalscorer for both teams. While Brentford will have their talisman Ivan Toney back next week, Wolves will have to dip into the transfer market to find a reliable number nine. Sasa Kalajdzic, who was signed from Stuttgart last season, has failed to impress manager Gary O’Neil and is set to be loaned out to Frankfurt.

The action now shifts back to the Black Country as Wolves and Brentford prepare for a third-round replay.

In another FA Cup clash, Fulham narrowly defeated Rotherham United 1-0 at Craven Cottage. Bobby Decordova-Reid’s goal in the 24th minute proved to be the difference between the two sides. Fulham took advantage of Rotherham’s sloppy play from the back, with Sebastian Revan being pressured by Harry Wilson. The ball ended up at the edge of the area, where Decordova-Reid was waiting to strike. He took one touch before unleashing a fantastic right-footed shot into the top corner.

Fulham had opportunities to extend their lead, but Rotherham goalkeeper Viktor Johansson made a brilliant save to deny Tosin Adarabioyo’s powerful header from an Andreas Pereira cross. Despite their unconvincing performance, Fulham secured their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Both matches provided plenty of excitement and drama, showcasing the unpredictable nature of the FA Cup.
