Vitinha believes that the fans of Paris Saint-Germain did not merit the outcome of the defeat against Dortmund.
Vitinha, the midfielder for Paris Saint-Germain, expressed his difficulty in finding the right words after his team’s disappointing exit from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Borussia Dortmund. Despite their defeat, PSG may feel unlucky as they hit the woodwork six times over the two legs.
One of the standout moments of the night came from Vitinha himself, as he unleashed a powerful shot from 25 yards that struck the underside of the crossbar and bounced back. However, PSG were unable to find the back of the net, leaving the Portuguese player with the unenviable task of describing the bitter disappointment they felt.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Vitinha said, “It’s difficult to talk right now, it was a big disappointing result, we gave it all but it wasn’t enough. I don’t really have a lot to talk about, [I want to] thank the fans they were amazing, they didn’t deserve this result. But I hope they will be conscious that we gave it all, it wasn’t enough but we gave it all.”
While PSG could point to some instances of bad luck, credit must also be given to Borussia Dortmund’s defense, which held strong against the late onslaught of PSG attacks in the closing stages of the match.
“I don’t like to attribute the fault to bad luck. I like to think it was other things, in the first game and this game as well. I don’t really want to think about it, I just want to be with my family and that’s it,” concluded Vitinha.
Although it may not provide much solace at the moment, Vitinha was the only PSG player singled out by TNT Sports expert Rio Ferdinand for his commendable performance in defeat.
“This kid, I think he’s the only player in a PSG shirt that comes out of the two legs with any credit, who played anything near where he should be playing,” Ferdinand said after the match. “I thought he was absolutely outstanding, Vitinha, didn’t get the winning result but I thought he was magnificent.”
