Virgil van Dijk remains unwaveringly dedicated to Liverpool as their captain, despite uncertainties surrounding his future following Jurgen Klopp’s departure.
Liverpool’s Dutch defender, Virgil van Dijk, has reassured fans that he is fully committed to the club and that recent comments about his future were taken out of context. The Liverpool captain addressed the speculation surrounding his future following the shock announcement of manager Jurgen Klopp’s departure in the summer.
Speaking to the Men in Blazers YouTube channel, van Dijk stated, “To be 100% clear, I am fully committed to the club. I love the club. I love the fans. That comment has fully been taken out of context. It’s not about me. It’s not about ‘I’, it’s about ‘us’. Nothing has changed.”
The defender emphasized that his focus remains on ensuring this season is a special one for Liverpool. He acknowledged the impact of Klopp’s announcement, saying, “It was obviously a big announcement the last couple of days, it’s been a big shock to each one of us connected to the club. I have been feeling exactly what the fans have been feeling in that exact moment. But, we mean business here.”
Despite the managerial change, Liverpool are still in contention for four trophies this season. They currently sit at the top of the Premier League table and will face Chelsea on Wednesday. Van Dijk expressed the team’s determination to achieve their goals, stating, “We want to crack on, we want to achieve the things that we dreamed of at the start of the season. We are in a good position so let’s give it our all.”
The Liverpool captain concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the club, saying, “But, like I said, don’t get it twisted. I am fully committed to the club and I love it. I love each and every day at Liverpool. I am the captain and we are going to go for it all. We will see how that goes.”
