TNT Sports presents a captivating new documentary that delves into the captivating journey of Michael Owen and his son James as they embark on an exploration of the profound impact of sight loss in the world of football.
TNT Sports is set to premiere a captivating new documentary titled “Football is for Everyone,” presented by none other than former England striker Michael Owen. The film delves into the world of sight loss and football, offering an intimate and inspiring look at the England Partially Sighted Futsal Team as they prepare for the 2023 IBSA World Games.
Joining Owen on this journey is his son James, who was diagnosed with Stargardt disease at the age of eight. This chronic eye condition shattered James’ dreams of following in his father’s footsteps and becoming a professional footballer. Together, they seek to understand more about James’ condition through the lens of the England Partially Sighted Futsal Team.
Thanks to a collaboration with the FA in association with EE, Michael and James were granted unprecedented access to the team. The documentary features candid interviews with the players and coaching staff as they gear up for the IBSA World Games on home soil. It offers a unique perspective on their training, camaraderie, and determination to overcome their various conditions.
The film, commissioned by TNT Sports, was produced and directed by Mark Sharman, Theo Lee Ray, and Isobel Williams. It promises to be a powerful and thought-provoking exploration of the obstacles many individuals face in pursuing their love for the beautiful game.
Scott Young, Group SVP, Content, Production and Business Operations, WBD Sports Europe, expressed his pleasure in working closely with Michael and James on this project. He believes that “Football is for Everyone” showcases how the sport can bring people together and hopes that it will inspire more inclusivity and accessibility in football.
