Thomas Muller attributes Bayern Munich’s resurgence to the influence of Konrad Laimer.
Thomas Muller has praised Konrad Laimer for his relentless pursuit of Martin Odegaard, stating that it was a pivotal moment that changed Bayern Munich’s season. The German giants are currently level at 2-2 with Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final, but earlier in the season, it seemed unlikely that they would even reach this stage of the competition.
Bayern’s dominance in the Bundesliga came to an end this season, with Bayer Leverkusen clinching the title comfortably. Additionally, they suffered a shocking defeat to third-tier FC Saarbrucken in the DFB Pokal in November.
However, their victory over Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the Champions League last month provided a much-needed boost to the team’s morale. Muller believes that Laimer’s performance in that match had a significant impact on the entire squad. Speaking to CBS Sports, he said, “The games and the win over Arsenal gave us a little bit of self-confidence. Not the team spirit where you go out and drink a beer together, but it gave us this belief, this kind of.. this Konni Laimer feeling when he is hunting Odegaard like a dog, maybe you know this story.”
This newfound winning feeling has instilled more belief in the team, leading to a more aggressive approach in recent weeks. While Bayern may not be playing perfectly, they are certainly playing better and are in a positive mood.
The team’s performance throughout the season ultimately led to the decision for manager Thomas Tuchel to leave this summer. It is rumored that Austria boss Ralf Rangnick is the frontrunner to take over.
The second leg of their Champions League tie against Real Madrid will take place in Madrid next Wednesday (May 8), and fans can catch the action live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
