The reason for Marcus Rashford’s absence from Manchester United’s victory against Newport is considered an internal issue.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has addressed Marcus Rashford’s absence from the squad to face Newport, describing it as an “internal matter”. The England international was reported as ill, but it was later revealed that he was in Belfast on Wednesday and Thursday evening.
Despite Rashford’s absence, United secured a 4-2 victory over Newport in the FA Cup fifth round. Ten Hag stated that Rashford reported ill and that he will personally handle the situation as it is an internal matter.
When questioned about Rashford’s whereabouts before the game, Ten Hag said they will deal with it and he will personally handle the situation. The focus then shifted to whether it was acceptable for players to lie about their whereabouts, but Ten Hag redirected the attention to the win over Newport and requested that questions be centered around that.
Rashford had an exceptional season in 2022/23, scoring 30 goals in all competitions. However, his form has declined this season, with only four goals to his name. Nevertheless, he has managed to score two goals in his last three outings.
United will now shift their focus to the Premier League, with a match against Wolves scheduled for Thursday. The game will be broadcast live on TNT Sports.
