Spurs comfortably secure a victory to strengthen their push for a top-four spot.
Pedro Porro’s jubilant celebration with his teammates was a sight to behold at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The Premier League clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest on April 7, 2024, saw Spurs emerge victorious with a well-deserved 3-1 win, propelling them above Aston Villa and into fourth place.
Ange Postecoglou’s side did face some shaky moments towards the end of the first half, as Forest had a golden opportunity to take the lead. However, Spurs regained control after the break and showcased their dominance, ultimately sealing the win.
Right from the start, the home side showcased their trademark slick passing and movement, dictating the tempo of the game. However, they had a scare when Forest’s Brazilian center-back, Murillo, unleashed a shot from an astonishing 80 yards, narrowly missing the target.
Moments later, Murillo found himself on the scoresheet, but unfortunately for Forest, it was an own goal as he inadvertently diverted a dangerous cross from Timo Werner past their goalkeeper, Matz Sels.
Against the run of play, Chris Wood stunned Spurs with a clinical equalizer, leaving them outplayed for the remainder of the first half. Wood had a chance to double his tally but wastefully struck the post from close range.
Postecoglou made two crucial midfield changes at halftime, introducing Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. This decision proved pivotal as Spurs took charge of the game. While the midfielders provided control, it was the defenders who found the back of the net. Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro scored two goals in the span of seven minutes, effectively extinguishing any hopes of a Forest comeback.
With this victory, Spurs leapfrogged Aston Villa into fourth place, thanks to a superior goal difference and a game in hand. Forest, on the other hand, remain in 17th position, just above Luton on goal difference. However, the situation could change if Everton face further points deductions this week.
