Sir Jim Ratcliffe is advising Manchester United fans to have patience during the team’s rebuilding process.
Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe demonstrated his commitment to the club by participating in the London Marathon. After completing the marathon, Ratcliffe hurried to Wembley to support the team in their FA Cup semi-final against Coventry. Despite the team’s recent struggles, Ratcliffe has urged fans to remain patient during the rebuilding process.
During the semi-final clash with Coventry, Manchester United’s weaknesses were evident as they squandered a 3-0 lead and had to rely on penalties to secure victory. The use of VAR also denied Coventry a late extra-time winner, further highlighting the team’s issues.
Ratcliffe wasted no time in implementing changes behind the scenes. He appointed Jason Wilcox as the technical director, but the arrival of new CEO Omar Berrada from Manchester City has been delayed due to gardening leave. Negotiations with Dan Ashworth from Newcastle for the role of sporting director are still ongoing.
In an interview with BBC Sport after completing the London Marathon, Ratcliffe compared Manchester United’s turnaround to a long-distance race. He stated that the team is currently at the 10km mark of a 42km race, emphasizing that rebuilding takes time and cannot be achieved overnight. Ratcliffe acknowledged the impatience of the fans but urged them to understand the process.
Despite being 71 years old, Ratcliffe completed the London Marathon in a time of 4:30:52. He then headed to Wembley to watch the remainder of Manchester United’s FA Cup semi-final.
