Sergio Ramos, a Spanish defender, departs from his childhood team Sevilla after only one season and once again becomes a free agent.

World Cup-winning defender Sergio Ramos has bid farewell to his boyhood club Sevilla, as the two parties have reached a mutual agreement, making Ramos a free agent once again.

Ramos, who emerged from Sevilla’s youth system and later made a move to Real Madrid in 2005, has become an iconic figure at the Madrid club. During his time there, he clinched five La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League titles before departing in 2021.

Having made a record-breaking 180 appearances for Spain and securing the World Cup victory in 2010, Ramos spent two years at Paris Saint-Germain before making an emotional return to Sevilla at the age of 37.

However, his homecoming was not without its challenges. Some fans were not receptive to his return, and the club faced a difficult season, even flirting with the possibility of relegation before making a late recovery under the guidance of Quique Sanchez Flores.

Ramos’ next move in football remains uncertain, with retirement being speculated by some, while others suggest lucrative opportunities in Saudi Arabia or the MLS.

To bid farewell to the fans, Ramos will hold a press conference on Tuesday at 10:00 UK time.

In an official statement, Sevilla confirmed the news, saying, “Sergio Ramos has informed Sevilla FC that he will not continue next season with the Nervion club after having fulfilled his dream of returning to the club where he trained as a player and achieved full international status. Sergio Ramos played 37 games in the 23/24 season, with a total of 3,301 minutes and 7 goals to his credit.

“Sevilla FC would like to thank Sergio Ramos for the commitment, leadership, and utmost dedication he has shown this season, and we wish him the best of luck in his next professional challenge.

“Sergio Ramos will bid his public farewell on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the press room of the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, accompanied by the president, Jose Maria del Nido Carrasco.”
