Rui Vittoria, the coach of Egypt, expressed his dissatisfaction with Liverpool for openly discussing the return of Mohamed Salah from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah could potentially be out of action for a month due to injury, as confirmed by his agent. The injury occurred during Salah’s time playing for Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations. Despite the injury, Salah managed to salvage a point for his team with a penalty in the 97th minute against Mozambique. However, he was forced to leave the field during the first half of the match against Ghana.

Initially, Egypt stated that Salah would miss a few games, but his agent later revealed that the injury was more severe than anticipated. It is now expected that Salah will be out of action for approximately a month. After Liverpool’s 4-0 victory over Bournemouth, manager Jurgen Klopp suggested that Salah would return to the club for rehabilitation on his hamstring injury. This decision was later confirmed by the Egypt FA.

Egypt manager Rui Vittoria expressed his dissatisfaction with Liverpool’s public handling of Salah’s injury situation. Vittoria stated that Salah’s injury was worse than initially thought and that they had to extend his recovery time. He also criticized Liverpool for discussing the injury through intermediaries, believing it was inappropriate given the importance of the game.

Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders provided further details about Salah’s injury, explaining that a detailed scan revealed a proper tear in his hamstring. Lijnders estimated that Salah’s return would take between three and four weeks if everything goes well. He also defended Salah’s decision to leave the AFCON, emphasizing the player’s commitment to his profession and stating that the decision was made in collaboration with both the Egypt and Liverpool medical teams.

During Salah’s absence, he watched as two Group B games in the AFCON produced four injury-time goals, ultimately changing the course of the knockout rounds. Egypt secured their qualification after a 99th minute equalizer from Cabo Verde ensured a draw against Ghana, while Egypt had earlier scored a 93rd minute goal to level the score against Mozambique.
