Rui Vitoria, the coach of Egypt, provides an update following Mohamed Salah’s departure during their match against Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Mohamed Salah’s unfortunate injury during Egypt’s clash with Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations has raised concerns for both his national team and his club, Liverpool.

The Liverpool striker was forced to leave the field just before half-time due to a suspected hamstring injury. Mostafa Fathi took his place on the pitch, while defender Ahmed Hegazi assumed the captain’s armband.

To compound Egypt’s woes, Ghana took the lead moments later with Mohammed Kudus’s powerful strike from outside the penalty box. However, Omar Marmoush managed to level the score for the Pharaohs after the break. Ghana quickly regained the lead with Kudus scoring his second goal of the night. Mostafa Mohamed then salvaged a second equalizer, resulting in a 2-2 draw.

Egypt manager Rui Vitoria expressed uncertainty about the severity of Salah’s injury, stating, “I hope it’s not a big problem but it was a problem in the first-half.” Vitoria acknowledged the difficult timing of the injury, as they could only make two substitutions in the second half. He remained hopeful that Salah would recover soon.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp also expressed concern about Salah’s injury, especially considering the team’s existing injury woes. Klopp mentioned that further assessment was needed to determine the extent of the injury. He described the moment as a shock and emphasized Salah’s rarity in needing to be substituted.

Klopp had previously expressed confidence in Liverpool’s ability to cope with Salah’s absence during the Africa Cup of Nations, citing the club’s attacking options such as Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Cody Gakpo as sufficient solutions.

Egypt currently sits second in Group B after two matches and will likely need a victory against Cape Verde in their final match to progress to the round of 16. The outcome of Salah’s injury remains uncertain, leaving both Egypt and Liverpool anxiously awaiting further updates.
