Ruben Amorim’s surprising statement: “We might be the worst team in the history of Manchester United.”

**‘Worst Team Maybe in History of Man Utd’ – Amorim Reacts to ‘Unacceptable’ Brighton Defeat**

In a candid post-match assessment, Ruben Amorim has delivered a stark message to Manchester United supporters, warning them that they are “going to suffer” following yet another disheartening defeat. The Portuguese manager, who took over from Erik ten Hag in November, did not mince his words as he described his side as “maybe the worst team in the history” of the illustrious club.

The latest setback came at Old Trafford, where Amorim labelled the result and the team’s home form as “unacceptable.” Reflecting on the match, he stated, “Another loss at home. It’s not acceptable, the way we suffered the goals.” This defeat has added to the mounting pressure on the team and its management.

Despite a brief spell of promising play, Amorim lamented the lack of consistency and composure within his squad. “We can play some football in small spaces of time, but we get nervous, and then we suffer a goal. And then it’s really hard to turn things around. We get really anxious, really nervous. They were better again,” he added, highlighting the psychological struggles his players are facing.

The match saw United go into the break level at 1-1, but a second-half onslaught from Brighton proved too much for the home side. Kaoru Mitoma restored the visitors’ lead before Georginio Rutter capitalised on a glaring error from goalkeeper Andre Onana, who inadvertently set up the Frenchman for an easy finish. This blunder effectively extinguished any hopes of a United comeback, as Brighton comfortably managed the remainder of the game.

“They were comfortable,” Amorim continued, reflecting on his side’s struggles. “We tried, not with very good football, but I think you can see this game and remember Bournemouth (a 3-0 defeat), you can remember Nottingham (a 3-2 defeat). We were in the game and then we suffer goals that we cannot suffer, and then it’s really hard for everybody.” His comments underscore the recurring issues that have plagued the team throughout the season.

Despite the grim reality of the situation, Amorim remains steadfast in his approach to the game. “We lost again at home. It’s really not acceptable. We need to change that and we need to change fast,” he asserted. “I’m not going to change the way I see the game; I’m very clear on that. I’m really sorry, the fans are going to suffer. I have one way of doing things, I know it’s going to produce results. But we need to survive this moment. I think it’s very clear for everybody what we are going to do.”

With only one shot on target throughout the entire match against Brighton, Amorim acknowledged the collective underperformance of his squad but struggled to pinpoint the reasons behind it. “It is hard to explain; we have to acknowledge the moment and not go around the problem,” he admitted. “Everybody here is underperforming, no matter what the circumstances. It is unacceptable to lose so many games for any club in the Premier League, never mind for Manchester United. It is a really hard moment, but we have to continue.”

In a moment of brutal honesty, he stated, “We are maybe the worst team in the history of Manchester United. We have to acknowledge that and change that. You are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach. Imagine that. We need to survive this moment. I know that.” His words reflect the deep sense of urgency and the need for transformation within the club.

Looking ahead, United will have a brief respite from their domestic troubles as they prepare for a UEFA Europa League clash against Rangers on January 23, followed by a league encounter against Fulham on January 26. Both matches will be broadcast live on TNT Sports and discovery+. The question remains: can Amorim turn the tide before it’s too late?
