Ruben Amorim states that the Manchester United players he chooses to sell at the conclusion of the Premier League season will be aware of his decision.
**”The Air is Heavy” – Amorim Acknowledges Challenges as Manchester United Faces Squad Overhaul**
Ruben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, has candidly admitted that a significant squad overhaul is on the horizon, with several players set to depart at the end of the season. Speaking to the media ahead of the FA Cup fifth-round clash against Fulham this Sunday, Amorim expressed that those leaving the club “will understand” the necessity of the changes.
In his remarks, Amorim stated, “We can talk about that (departures) at the end of the season. We have a lot of games to play. But that is clear, and I think that is not a difficult situation because everybody understands that in football; sometimes you stay, sometimes you have to move on.”
The Portuguese manager emphasised the importance of honesty in his dealings with players, noting, “When you are honest with someone, they can take it. In the beginning, it is hard, but they will understand. So I’m quite honest with my players, and they already know that sometimes they have to move on at the end of the season.”
Currently, the Red Devils are on track for what could be their worst Premier League season to date, having finished eighth in the 2023/24 campaign. An alarming dip in form has seen United slip to 14th place, raising concerns that they may surpass that unwanted record. This troubling performance has led to speculation that Amorim may have underestimated the scale of the task at hand since taking over from Erik ten Hag in November.
However, the manager was quick to dismiss such claims, asserting, “I knew the situation.” He added, “It’s hard because the perspectives can be different. So, it’s hard to say if they (the club) are honest or not. I felt that they were honest, but I need to see things and to feel things myself. So it’s always a difference of opinion in that matter. I knew the situation. I knew that it was a risk, but we are surviving and doing everything.”
Despite the current struggles, Amorim remains optimistic about the future. “I think today is really hard. But this is going to help us in the future. So I have hope. We will see. I think the good thing is that we have a clear path. Now is hard, but we are doing things to achieve success in the future.”
The FA Cup presents United with an opportunity to salvage their season, as Amorim aims to retain the trophy they won last year with a stunning victory over Manchester City. Additionally, his side is still in contention for European honours, with a crucial UEFA Europa League match against Real Sociedad on the horizon, set to be broadcast live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Amorim and his squad as they navigate these turbulent waters in search of redemption.
