Ruben Amorim is extremely frustrated with Manchester United’s lack of consistency following their draw against Liverpool in the Premier League.
**‘Our performance was not good’ – Guardiola insists Man City are ‘absolutely not’ back to best**
In a gripping encounter at Anfield, Manchester United battled to a 2-2 draw against their fierce rivals Liverpool. However, head coach Ruben Amorim was left frustrated by his side’s inconsistency. Following a tumultuous run of four consecutive defeats in all competitions, United’s performance against the Reds offered a glimmer of hope. Yet, Amorim believes his players should be “really, really mad” about their overall display.
The match saw Lisandro Martinez put United ahead with a well-taken opener, only for Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah to turn the tide in Liverpool’s favour. However, Amad Diallo’s late equaliser salvaged a point for United, leaving Amorim to reflect on the mixed emotions stemming from the result.
“The expectations were so different to what we saw during the game,” Amorim told Sky Sports. “I get more mad because of the other games. It’s even harder to understand. This is not about the system or the technique; it’s about something else. It is hard to understand for me as the coach.”
Despite acknowledging that his team deserved the point, Amorim expressed disappointment. He insisted that the players should feel more frustrated than they did after their recent 2-0 defeat to Newcastle. “I’m happy for the performance, not happy for the result, but I’m really, really mad because of the other games,” he added.
When pressed on whether he had conveyed his feelings to the players post-match, Amorim admitted, “No, because I need to calm down and say the right things. We are in a difficult moment, but it’s hard to not get really mad.”
Currently languishing in 13th place in the Premier League table, United’s position remains precarious. Amorim emphasised the need for his squad to continue fighting to escape the relegation zone. “We need to fight to get out of this situation, and if we play against Liverpool every day, we will do that,” he stated.
He further stressed the importance of maintaining this competitive spirit against all opponents. “We have already proved in the other games we can do it. The way we were really competitive; that is the crucial thing going forward. Today I felt that the players really wanted it. The most important thing is that the players don’t relax tomorrow, forget about it, and return to the same behaviour.”
As the season progresses, United will need to channel this newfound determination if they are to climb the table and avoid a season of struggle.
