Rio Ferdinand praises Tottenham Hotspur for successfully dealing with the absence of Harry Kane.
Harry Kane’s departure from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich was undoubtedly a blow for the London club. However, under the guidance of manager Ange Postecoglou, they have managed to bounce back impressively. This remarkable recovery has not gone unnoticed, with former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand praising Postecoglou and Tottenham’s resilience.
Kane’s move to Germany has been fruitful for him individually, as he has already scored an impressive 32 goals in the Bundesliga. This puts him among the top 10 best goalscoring seasons in the history of the league, with seven games still remaining.
However, despite Kane’s individual success, Bayern Munich have struggled this season. They lost the German Super Cup in Kane’s first game, were eliminated from the DFB-Pokal by third-tier Saarbrucken, and currently sit 16 points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. As a result, their best chance of winning a major trophy this season lies in the UEFA Champions League.
In contrast, Tottenham have been performing well under Postecoglou’s leadership. After finishing eighth last season, they are on track to secure a return to the Champions League. They have also been scoring more goals per game this season, thanks in part to the impressive performances of captain Heung-Min Son. Postecoglou’s seamless transition to English football has been a key factor in Tottenham’s success.
Ferdinand expressed his surprise at the lack of discussion surrounding Kane’s departure and how Tottenham have coped without him. He commended the squad for stepping up in Kane’s absence, with Son leading the line and scoring goals. Ferdinand also praised Tottenham’s recruitment and the performances of all their players. He acknowledged that injuries have been a challenge for the team, but their depth and rotation have allowed them to remain competitive in the race for a Champions League spot.
Tottenham currently find themselves in the Champions League places, tied on points with fifth-placed Aston Villa and with a game in hand. The top five teams in the Premier League table all have a chance to qualify for Europe’s premier competition. The arrival of new players such as Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, Pedro Porro, and Guglielmo Vicario has bolstered Tottenham’s squad, and Son’s impressive goal tally has propelled him to sixth place in the Premier League scoring charts.
Former Tottenham striker Peter Crouch also highlighted the team’s pace and attacking threat. He praised the full-backs for their speed and Van de Ven for his exceptional performances in defense. Crouch emphasized that Tottenham’s front three possess pace that can trouble any opponent.
As Tottenham prepare to face Newcastle, their Champions League aspirations are within reach. With their strong performances on and off the pitch, they are proving that they can compete at the highest level without Harry Kane.
